Tanu Weds Manu Returns 368% profit

THE sequel to Tanu Weds Manu starring Kangana Ranaut and R Madhavan is now Bollywoods 12th biggest hit of all times in the domestic market. Notably, the films net collection of  Rs 114 crore so far, means it has ensured a 368 per cent profit for its producers, considering it was made on a paltry budget of Rs 31 crore. The whopping figures indicate it is one of the most profitable films in Indian cinema ever.
The global lifetime gross of the Aanand L Rai-directed film currently stands at Rs 145 crore after four weeks even as cineplexes report brisk tickets sales in its current, fifth-week run.
Despite ABCD 2 opening fabulously at the box office, the business of Tanu Weds Manu Returns has not been affected. The next couple of weeks will see the release of the medium-budget films like Guddu Rangeela , directed by Jolly LLB maker Subhash Kapoor, and the CGI-loaded mythological drama Baahubali, which means Tanu Weds Manu Returns could lose some screens at the theatres.
The trade expects the film to cross Rs 150 crore in lifetime gross by the time Salman Khan's Bajrangi Bhaijaan hogs all screens on July 16.
Tanu Weds Manu Returns reunites Kangana and Madhavan for the first time since they appeared together in the first film, Tanu Weds Manu, in 2011.
That film was a surprise hit at the multiplexes, prompting director Rai to plan a sequel. He had originally thought of a twoheroine project but later decided to cast Kangana in a double role, as Tanu and her lookalike Datto, who poses threat to the marital relationship of Tanu and Manu.
Apart from Kanganas double role, the sequel also has some brilliant performances by Madhavan, Deepak Dobriyal, Jimmy Shergill, KK Raina and Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub.
Unconfirmed reports have hinted at a third part being announced soon.
It's hard for us auto-scribes not to sit up and take notice when a business magnate such as Mukesh Ambani makes an upgrade in his garage - that too when it's from one armoured vehicle to another. The Reliance Industries Limited chairman and MD will now be ferried around in the uber-secure S 600 Guard from Mercedes-Benz. In terms of security, the purchase is definitely an upgrade from the armoured BMW 7 Series that was only recently added to the RIL fleet. The VR9 rating of the car should be indication enough of all that the car... Read More
